Fun and Focused, Tips and Tricks – Best of the Web

It’s that time of the month again…

…time to release another jam-packed Best of the Web. It seems like these things just keep getting longer and longer. There is so much valuable content out there right now that we can’t even include all the great things we see and hear.

This month we have a pretty wide range of articles from Gamification, to Self Publishing, Affiliate Marketing and the Audience Business Masterclass. Here at Firepole Marketing we have been spending a lot of time of all of these topics, and so has the rest of the web.

Its nice to see such a perfect alignment of content between ourselves and the web this month, I hope you make some of your own connections from these great articles…

Multiples of 10

10 seemed to be a popular number this past month and we’ve got the articles to prove it.  Take a look at these list posts that will keep you thinking in 10s.

Big Business Bright Moves and Blunders

Although most of you are involved in small businesses, it is often helpful to take note of what large businesses do successfully and also what mistakes they have made. Here are some big business highs and lows that we noticed recently.

Time and Focus

Working from home or running a small business can often be difficult for many reasons, but today we have a collection of articles that concentrate on two closely related reasons: time management and staying focused.

Wise Words on Writing

Of course we have to throw in some posts about writing, it is such an important skill. It is something I teach in Write like Freddy, but there are many other bloggers who know a great deal about writing too. Here are some fresh perspectives on the topic.

Morals of Marketing

Here, we use the word moral in two descriptive ways. Some articles we found deal with marketing and the moral issues that come along with it, while others deal with the word moral in a “moral of the story” way.

Fun and Games

We have been pretty obsessed with Gamification this month at Firepole Marketing; especially because of the Great Online Marketing Scavenger Hunt. Looks like we aren’t the only ones who have been having fun.

Tips and Tricks

Although running a business will never be easy, we can help you out a little bit with some time saving, profit making, tips and tricks from some brilliant brains.

Other Thoughts

Here are a few articles that didn’t quite fit any of our categories. Nonetheless, they were way too thought provoking and informative to leave out.

Masterclass Mania

The launch of the Audience Business Masterclass seems to have struck a chord with a lot of people. It’s nice to see so much positive feedback in the online community.

More Kind Mentions and Interviews

I am overwhelmed by the amount of kind words written about me this past month. Thanks to everyone who helped spread word of Firepole Marketing.

Guest Posts

And, of course, a few guest posts from yours truly:

We’ve listed a lot of great content here, but if you think we’ve missed out on anything important, please let us know in the comments!

  4. Hi folks, thanks for mentioning my guest post at Make A Living Writing! I’m mentoring bloggers all day today, and in between sessions I’ll be picking my reading from this list to keep me stocked up with inspiration and fresh thoughts. :)

  5. Despite being unjustly disqualified from the contest you are running (which, I might add, I likely would have won, since I had more than double the points of ANYONE ELSE IN THE CONTEST), I am leaving a comment to let you know that I harbor no hard feelings! I have learned a lot in the past three weeks, and will continue to do so! I have even made an introductory video (my first video ever) and posted it to YouTube! Knowing that this is just a start is great, too, since I now have a lot of plans for my future! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with this newbie for FREE! Win, win, win! I am a winner already!

  6. Hey Danny,

  11. Thanks so much for including me in your list. I was wondering where my recent upswing in traffic was coming from. I couldn’t have asked for a better Birthday present. Glad to be part of your community. :)

  12. Hi Danny,

Great list! I have one request.

Can you give me the design specs for your time machine? I have thought about this for a while, and I think it’s the only way you’re able to get so much done every month.

    Thanks!

  13. Kathleen says:

Great list of posts on a variety of subjects, thanks for sharing. I read some, pinned some and shared some. You must know you are doing something right with all those people writing about you!

Thank you for this roundup. I always look forward to seeing them. One of the best tips on the list for me was “The best time never to send email.” Earlier this week I was contemplating this very thing. I ran my dilemma by my boyfriend and his response was “if I wanted to hear what the person had to say, it wouldn’t matter when I received that email. I would open it because it was from them.” To say a light bulb went on would be an understatement. I thought “you’re right.” And then at 7:30pm that night, sent the email and interestingly, it was one of my higher open rates. I then thought, “what a great way to also cull a list.” Those who want to hear from you will open your emails any time. :-) Thanks for the reassurance on this.
