Your Entrepreneurial Success Depends on 2 Components! Do You Have Them?

Have you ever met anyone who did not want to succeed as an entrepreneur?

I’ve never met anyone that was becoming an entrepreneur to fail! It’s obvious that everyone who pursues an entrepreneurial venture wants to be successful. Often however, entrepreneurs lack two of the most important and basic components required for success – the People and the Mindset.

Every day we are bombarded with criticism – some good, some bad, and the feedback we receive is collected by our subconscious mind to shape the world around us. Whether you realize this or not, what you see, what you hear and what you say, all have a significant impact in the way you perceive the world around you, and what you perceive is a reality in your life.

Not too long ago I listened to, renowned business and motivational speaker, Jeffery Combs speak and he made a very interesting point about the way our human brain collects information that I would like to share with you.

Build the Right Mindset

As an entrepreneur, the first thing you need to understand is that the results you are achieving in your business today are a product of yesterday’s thoughts and habits. What does that mean?

Your thoughts influence your actions, and your actions drive results. So, if you have it within you to believe that you have what it takes to build a successful business and that you want this more than anything, you’ll take the steps required to make sure you achieve the level of success that you’re looking for.

Your brain is a powerful interpreter of how you perceive the world around you, through your five senses. In reality your eyes do not see and your ears do not hear. Your eyes and ears are simply a method of collecting information that is then transmitted to the brain which integrates the stimuli it recognizes as important based on prior experiences, into our subconscious mind.

That is precisely why it is important to not only speak the words that are conducive to entrepreneurial success, but to hear them as well.

There’s a small problem with this concept, however!

Surround Yourself with the Right People

You really can’t control what other people say! But if what you see, hear and say has a significant impact on what you believe is a possibility in your life and in your business, doesn’t it make sense to surround yourself with people that will encourage you to say and hear the words that are conducive to entrepreneurial success?

You do have control one thing, and that is the type of people that you surround yourself with. But how do you know who is really right for you and who is not?

Over my entrepreneurial career so far, I’ve discovered that no matter where you go you will always encounter 5 types of people in life.

The Refreshers Those that strengthen your faith and energize you! These are people that are typically other entrepreneurs and that have similar goals and values. These are the people that you mastermind with – you share your ideas with them, they share their ideas with you, and you feed off of each other’s energy and enthusiasm to take the next step forward in your individual businesses. The RefinersThose who sharpen you and clarify your vision. These can be other entrepreneurs, as well, or simply friends or family that genuinely believe in you WHY – the reason you’re an entrepreneur. They know you have what it takes to succeed and they never forget to remind you why they believe in you and why you’re going to succeed.

The ReflectorsThose who mirror your energy, neither adding nor subtracting from it. These can be friends or family that simply do not care or have no interest in what you are doing. They are satisfied with their lifestyle and see absolutely no problem with climbing the corporate ladder.

The ReducersThose that try to diminish your goals and efforts to fit their own comfort level. These can be friends, family or everyday people with whom you’ve shared ideas but who never seem to be satisfied with your responses. They always try to tell you why your ideas are simply not good when in fact, the only reason they say that is because they feel ashamed that they didn’t think of it first. They purposely try to bring you down to a level that meets their shame and guilt so that they can feel better about themselves.

The RejectersThose who do not believe, understand or purposely try to look for a flaw in you plan. These people are usually friends or family. I like to call this group the “cynics”. These are the people that challenge your every idea and try to interrogate you or make you justify why you do what you do. They look for or try to find a flaw in every business plan or goal you have and never forget to remind you why you will fail and why your business venture will simply not work. They patronize you and tell themselves that you will never succeed so that they can feel better about themselves and their lack of ambition and desire.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to determine that you should surround yourself with as many Refresher and Refiners as possible, and completely avoid Reducers and Rejecters – they are in no way, shape or form deserving of your time and energy.

I’ve Had to Make Tough Decisions

Listen. I get it! It’s tough to tell people who are close to you that you’re “sorry, I can’t go to lunch with you” or “sorry, I can’t make it to Thanksgiving dinner this year”. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve had my share of Reducers and Rejecters, some of which included family. I’ll be frank, my commitment to my vision and to my mission is so great, that I’ve had to make a lot of new friends and even stop associating with some family members. I’ve had to make tough decisions but in reality they really weren’t very tough at all.

I know where I am going, I know what I am going to accomplish, I know what I perceive is real in my life and in my business and people who wish to Reject and Reduce my mission are in no way, shape or form deserving of my time or energy!

What about you? How committed are you to your entrepreneurial success? Do you have the mindset? Do you have the people? If not, what are you doing to get them?

Hey Hector – great job on this man.

I really liked what you shared about the 5 types of people. If it was up to me I’d only have Refreshers and Refiners…but the truth is, we all will encounter even the Reducers and Rejecters. And the REFLECTORS are likely the most common – so we ALL experience the them on a daily basis. They are sometimes the most frustrating because they just don’t care…almost sitting on the fence!

Whenever I commit to something, it’s 110%. I go all out. In fact, I tend to overdue it. It’s my personality type, my drive and just how I was raised. If I wanted something, I had to make it happen. I’ve come to a place in life where I know that I realize that my actions directly lead to my results. Having this POWER mentally prepares me for the course to go ALL out.

Great job Hector on this article. Very enlightening. I love reading your stuff!

Hey Danny – thank you for hosting this great article from our friend Hector. He’s a great guy and doing terrific things!

PEACE

Hey Jk! Thanks for your insight, man! It’s always greatly appreciated.

Hey I definitely know what you’re talking about. There’s always going to be people around you that are going to fit into one of the categories no matter how hard you try to get away from those that do not add to or straighten your vision. But we always limit how much exposure we have to these kinds of people. I think that you (speaking generally) can be a very strong willed person but if all of your friends are reducers and rejectors then you have thoughts of failure linger in your subconscious mind and you start question whether worth it or if it’s possible. I speak from experience.

Before I decided to make new friends, I had people around me that consistently tried to challenge my thought process and would try to get me to justify my vision. I learned really quickly that people like aren’t really looking to have a real discussion, they’re looking for an argument. I no longer bother with people like that. I’ll let them be right so that I can be rich! :) Thanks again JK!

I agree with you, Hector. If you do entrepreneurship thing long enough, you realize that some naysayers are good in that they are looking out for you and helping you to sharpen your vision, but too many of them really don’t get it, and aren’t trying to – they just want to fit you into the box that they’ve gotten used to.

Thanks again for this fantastic addition to our blog, Hector, it’s a privilege to have your content here. :)
