Can you believe it’s June already?
The last few weeks have been pretty crazy for me, because at the end of May (as you hopefully already know), I launched my biggest, most ambitious (totally free) project yet to date.
It was the Naked Marketing Manifesto, and it’s absorbed almost all of my time over the last few weeks.
And yet, as seems to always be the case no matter how busy I get, the blogosphere didn’t stand still.
While I was out promoting the manifesto, some amazing stuff has been written and posted. I may not have been quite as visible on quite as many blogs as I usually am, but I’ve still been lurking, watching, and reading.
And today, I’d like to share with you some of the best things I’ve seen over the past month (and the story of how I got the name “Danny Iny The Teaching Warrior Monk”, and have this cool cartoon illustration done!)…
Essays, Exposés and Inspiration
Some of these make for some pretty intense reading – especially the Verge piece on Scamworld (that one really made me stop and think).
Clear an hour or two to go through them all – believe me, you shouldn’t miss even one of these posts!

Guides and How To’s
When it comes to marketing, blogging, social media, and business in general, there’s always more to learn, and I’m grateful that there are so many great people out there doing the teaching!
There’s so much information out there that it can get a bit overwhelming, so here are the very best guides, tips, tricks and how-to posts from the last few weeks (and special props to Mark Schaefer, who made the list 3 times!):

The Great and Powerful List Post
I have a confession to make: I don’t actually like list posts.
I feel like it’s just too much information; I scan them for good ideas, bookmark them, and plan to get back to them but never do.
So a list post has to be really good for me to recommend it. And over the last few weeks, there have been quite a few that caught my attention:

Interviews Kind Mentions, and Cartoons
I’ve been honored to participate in some great interviews over the last month, and several bloggers have very graciously mentioned me. One even drew that awesome cartoon of me, and dubbed me the “Teaching Warrior Monk” (last item on the list)! My thanks to them.

Danny — you’re like the Energizer Bunny. You never stop! Thanks for all the great lists. Even if I never read a single one of the posts, I’ve got an inventory of great headlines to steal (mmmm, learn) from. Sorry I missed your call yesterday – had another commitment. But I’ll listen later.
Haha, I’m glad I could help, Jeannette, if only with the headlines.
And don’t worry, there’s a recording – it’s in the members area. Let me know if you have any questions!
Hey Danny – nice list … what i wanted to comment on was your cartoon “warrior monk” — it might be me, but my first thought was of Freddy Mercury !! LOL. Best.
LOL!
That Verge article on scamworld is crazy good! I’ve seen a couple follow up articles by internet marketers that are pretty well thought out also. Great list of links. Thanks.
P.S. The Verge link you have to scamworld needs to be fixed.
Hey Jeff, thanks for the heads-up – fixing it now. If there are good follow-up articles that you recommend, please send them my way.
Hi Danny,
Thanks for the mentions, they’re much appreciated
And thanks again for a valuable interview.
And thanks for maybe the best best of the web post so far; you pointed some really great posts I hadn’t read before
You’re very welcome, Peter, and thank you for inviting me to do the interview! (and the upcoming guest post here at Firepole Marketing – stay tuned, everyone!)
I’m new here Danny (I was on your Aweber webinar).
Just wanted to say thanks for all the good info!
You’re very welcome, Jarom, and welcome to Firepole Marketing!
You may not remember it, but thanks for being the first person I’ve ever heard come out and say “don’t worry about SEO”.
You said that it’s a long-term strategy and you basically have to manipulate the system to show up well, and you’re absolutely right.
Other problems with SEO:
–small businesses tend to choose the wrong keywords
–they spend too much time obsessing over the technicalities of SEO to the detriment of their content
–it’s slow and time consuming and if you do it wrong then the search engines will catch you and you’ll get slapped and there goes all your effort
–there are plenty of ways to get traffic much faster
So I appreciate that answer you gave.
And I’m implementing several of the email strategies you suggested in the webinar and I’ll report back to you on the numbers. Thanks!
I’m really glad to hear that, Jarom, I’m so glad that you found value in the advice!
Yes, definitely, I’d love to hear about the numbers on the strategies that you’ve implemented – email me when you’re ready, and let me know!
Woo Hoo made this list twice this month! Thanks Danny
Great to be included, greater to have this awesome list of other great posts to read! Keep up the great work Warrior Monk
Yes you did, congrats, Steve. And thanks – Teaching Warrior Monk, that definitely sounds a lot better than the Freddy Krueger of Blogging…
Thankee kindly for the mention, Danny!
You’re very welcome, Mrinalini, thank you too!
Awesome Danny!
Great to be included on your list again
Cheers,
Timo
Danny,
Great list, but how do you have the time to read all this stuff and do everything else that you do? You are a machine. The information is great, but I often find I consume more than I create in my business so I’d love to hear your tips on that.
Stay cool,
Chris
That’s a great question, Chris. I don’t know – as they say, if something needs to be done, give it to a busy person.
Seriously, though, you might want to divide your reading and studying time into two categories; “goal-oriented”, and “leisure” – during leisure time read whatever grabs your attention, but during goal-oriented time, only look for stuff that solves a problem you have right now (and if there’s no problem, then you should be working!).
Does that help?
And there you go answering my comment within 31 minutes! Machine.
I like the ‘goal orientated’ stance, I’m going to try that. Most of my reading is ‘business orientated’ but I think I need to be more goal specific.
Thanks!
Haha, you bet.
Oi…my head is spinning…where to start?!? Thanks for passing along the great information…I’m going to try to read a few of these today *big to do list*. Have a great one! mb
Hey Mary Beth, don’t see it all as required reading – just skim the headlines and read the ones that grab you.
Thanks, Danny!
It’s an honor to include you in the Hall of Warriors, Danny! You’re a perfect fit as you are always teaching us how to improve our marketing efforts.
The honor is mine, Alejandro. Thank you very much!
Danny,
You are super human. Such an inspiration! I love knowing what YOU think is awesome. These are tips that I will take time to learn from because a master of his craft suggests them. Thanks so much for your awesome, awesome work!
Tania
I’m honored, Tania, and don’t worry, these resources won’t disappoint.
Hi Danny, great compilation of resources you’ve put together here. I love you comment about ‘leisure time’ reading and ‘goal orientated’ reading. It is so easy to feel overwhelmed with all the content out there that there is a sense of pressure to read it all and the easiest option can then be to read none of it to take the pressure off. Your idea of splitting your time like this as a way to keep focused and only read what matters is ace. it instantly took away that sense of panic in me to try and consume and absorb everything that I think may offer something of value.
Hey Lisa, I’m really glad to hear it! Yeah, I used to get overwhelmed by everything there is to read and consume, and to be perfectly honest, sometimes I still do. But I try to remind myself that right now, there is work to be done, and the reading can wait until later.
Yay! Danny’s Best of the Web – my favourite compilation (and always so proud to be included!). Safe travels this week Danny, and yes, we are LONG overdue for a catch up!
Thanks, Ruth, I’ll look forward to it!
Phew that is quite the list my friend. Not only are you an avid writer it’s clear you are also a reading machine. Thanks for linking to and commenting on my epic blog post. You rock!
Hey Natalie, I don’t know if I’d say that I’m an “avid” reader, but I definitely appreciate the great work that people like you are doing day in and day out.
Looking forward to our call next week,
Wow! I didn’t read all of it of course, but I’ll keep this post somewhere to retrieve it when I need it.
Thanks Danny, for doing the job of gathering this and putting it in one place
Luis
You’re very welcome, Luis, and you should definitely find the time to come back and go through it – these posts are excellent!
Ah yes… the epic round-up — sometimes I wonder if I really need to surf, when I can just wait from your fantastically selected linkpost
Business {grow} made it 3 times! I’ve started a trend !
Danny writes better than Freddy!
I so much love this. I followed one of the links and was able to land an interview with one of the bloggers (Danny watch it, you are coming to my show soonest).
Thanks for posting this and it means a lot to me.
Sheyi
Thank you very much, Sheyi, I’m really glad to hear that!
